Our Story

ULTRAGEN was founded over 33 years ago by two engineers well known in their respective fields: Khac Rong Truong, Ph.D., P.Eng., Mechanical Engineer, and Steve Surveyer, P.Eng. Process Engineer. From the beginning, the company has acquired a solid reputation within the Quebec industry in mechanical, piping and process engineering.

With a team of experienced professionals and a focus on providing quality services at the best possible cost, without compromising operational safety for its clients, ULTRAGEN has become one of the most respected consulting engineering firms in Quebec, working in the natural resources, renewable energy, and industrial sectors.

Timeline of significant events in Ultragen's history

1989

Founding of Ultragen Group Ltd., Mechanical, Piping and Process

1993

Creation of the Project Management Group

1995

Ultragen establishes a long-term Capital Investment Management Alliance with Shell, a relationship that spans over 20 years!

1996

Ultragen expands into the U.S. to serve the used oil recycling market by entering into major agreements with key industry players.

1998

Ultragen enters into a master agreement with Suncor Energy Products for the execution of capital projects. This agreement is still active today with over 5000 projects

1999

Ultragen Group adds expertise to its team with the creation of the instrumentation, control, and automation departments.

2000

The service offering expands with the addition of the electrical and power department.

2001

Ultragen continues its expansion and goes international with major projects in Vietnam, Russia, and Europe. In parallel with this expansion, Ultragen develops its expertise and executes projects to produce biofuels from corn, grains, and other inputs.

2002

The civil and structural engineering group is created to add to Ultragen's service offering.

2005

Ultragen continues its growth in the USA and Canada by multiplying the agreements with important customers in the recycled oil and refining sectors.

2009

Creation of the Ultragen CIAC tech division to serve the aeronautics and aviation markets.

2010

Ultragen successfully adds expertise in mining and metals to support these sectors of activity and improve its service offering.

2013

The environment and climate change being more and more at the forefront, Ultragen puts its expertise to the benefit of organic waste valorization projects by associating itself with important partners. To date, Ultragen is a major player in this fast-growing sector and has expertise in renewable natural gas.

2014

Ultragen becomes a leading firm in the industrial, natural resources and energy sectors by offering complete engineering, procurement, project management and construction (EPCM) services.

2018

Ultragen announces the opening of a new office in the Greater Quebec City area to export its expertise to this region and to expand into Northern Quebec.

2019

The opening of a new office in the City of Sept-Iles allows Ultragen to conclude framework agreements with several important clients in the region, including Arcelor Mittal, Aluminerie Alouette and the Société Ferroviaire de Pointe-Noire.

2020

Diversification continues and Ultragen obtains its accreditation with the Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF) and begins to increase its presence and knowledge in the public infrastructure sector. An important framework agreement is concluded with the City of Quebec after winning a major bid. Ultragen now works in the water treatment sector and supports the City in the execution of many major industrial and environmental projects.

2021

Ultragen in its drive to support the energy transition and innovation, has acquired new technological tools that directly support the efficiency of its design teams. Following this important digital shift, Ultragen can offer value-added services in reality capture, 3D laser scanning and virtual reality, all using drones, virtual camera and 3D scanning tools. This digital shift is also accompanied by the integration of BIM services to its existing operations. This approach allows considerable gains in the progress of all our projects and ensures respect for the environment by limiting risks to the health and safety of people.

2022

As a return to normalcy and in response to the overwhelming challenges of the pandemic, Ultragen has adopted flexible policies and integrated hybrid work and flexible hours to support its teams. This is a significant change that is impacting the execution of mandates and projects. In addition, Ultragen is migrating its Quebec City facility to a new, more spacious facility that is adaptable to the new reality of telecommuting. They will be inaugurated on October 27 th , 2022 and ready to welcome new talents and experts!

Throughout the years, our team of engineering professionals has assisted our clients in achieving their objectives and has developed long-term relationships based on trust, rigour, and quality of service. Our services are assured by the experience and commitment of our managers and the innovative expertise of our employees. More than 5000 projects have been completed to date. ULTRAGEN wants to be a major player in plant engineering in Quebec.

ULTRAGEN now has all the qualified resources and expertise to carry out large-scale EPCM and EPC projects, with the production of all the engineering documents required for construction in all disciplines, including environmental engineering, process engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, instrumentation and control, as well as a cost control and project management team.

ULTRAGEN is also active on the international market, particularly in the United States. We are the ideal partner for the realization of projects in the industry, both for the preliminary studies and for the complete realization, including start-up assistance. In addition, our expertise in remote work has helped many of our clients reduce their project costs by minimizing the mobilization of on-site resources.
